Elizabeth Patterson

A Fine Arts graduate of Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Elizabeth worked in numerous mediums until the chance discovery of a set of colored pencils in 1983.

Her arresting color pencil series of the undersea world launched her career and has inspired her to explore a variety of subjects and styles.

Elizabeth has earned critical acclaim and recognition as a top colored pencil artist and is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America.

To attain signature status, an artist must be juried into three CPSA international exhibitions within a ten year period.

Only recently accepted as a fine art medium, colored pencil has gained much recognition over the last decade largely due to the efforts of CPSA. Color pencil art can be found in exhibitions and museum collections around the world and continues to elicit the dedication of thousands of fine artists.

Water, light and reflection are recurring themes in Elizabeth's work. These eye catching qualities can be seen in her underwater figure series, The Swimmers. To prepare, she's taken hundreds of photographs under water for reference.

The swimmers were featured in the Spring, 2005 issue of American Artist's Drawing Magazine in an article entitled, "Colored Pencil Comes of Age." She has also received several awards for individual works in this series.
